We are back baby! Join us live at Smiths Alternative to cheer on the ACT finalists in the Australian Poetry Slam - Audrey McCormick and Oli (AKA Sophie L Meredith) before they head to Sydney for the national final!
And bring your poem for the open mic.
Audrey McCormick is a student poet who started performing over three years ago, although she has been writing poetry for more than half her life. She has performed around Canberra including at Enlighten Festival, That Poetry Thing and Poetic City. Her poems draw on a combination of the hilarious, and at times daunting, experiences of growing up.
Sophie L. Meredith, AKA "Oli" is a gender-queer poet, teacher and scholar living on Ngunnawal lands in Canberra. Their first chapbook ‘We’re Going Ahead Without You’ was published by Ginninderra Press, 2019. Sophie is co-editor of, and contributor to, the Bathurst Poets' first collection: Bathurst Poets Anthology. They also co-founded the Very Open Mic Night in Bathurst with Alice Blackwood. Oli loves slam poetry and offers spoken word workshops professionally and is a regular NSW finalist of the national Australian Poetry Slam (APS) competition. Sophie researches and teaches around social determinants of health and well-being and is interested in harnessing opportunities for well-being in society, particularly in the current 'effervescent' social climate!
