This night is organised to showcase some of the talent from UC, whilst also creating a space where students can see their peers performing and share some of their own work. If you're a poet from UC and would like to feature in our next showcase please email thatpoetrything@gmail.com [🙂]

Peter Searles is an emerging writer from Canberra. His writing journey began in 2021 when he enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts (Creative Writing) at University of Canberra (UC). Through study, he discovered a love of poetry which he now practices alongside short fiction. In 2025, Peter contributed poetry to the exhibition 'Over and Around' at Platform by Canberra Contemporary. His writing has also appeared in the UC First creative writing anthology and in Curieux, UC’s student magazine, for which he worked as an editor throughout his studies. He volunteers at ArtSound FM, helping to produce Poetry on the Radio. Through his work on the show, he's had the pleasure of meeting many Canberra poets.

Steffi Linton’s writing reflects her obsession with exploring issues relating to identity, neurodivergence, chronic illness, sexuality, relationships, and the power of socialisation. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing at the University of Canberra in 2022, and her first chapbook, More to Lose, was published by Ginninderra Press in the same year. Steffi’s work has also appeared in poetry journals The Crow, Wishbone Words, UC’s First and Curieux publications, and the fifth edition of Beyond Queer Words.

Jacinta grew up on Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country. She’s studying Creative Writing at the University of Canberra but don’t ask her when she’ll graduate. She’s performed at That Poetry Thing and the Poetic City Festival. She’s published poetry with the ANU Poet’s Lunch, UC FIRST and Curieux. She regularly chimes in to conversations on ABC Canberra and encourages more young people to join in on the radio. Despite being a hopeless romantic for a full circle, she appreciates storytelling in all shapes and forms. Australia is home to the oldest continuing storytelling traditions in the world and Jacinta feels deeply privileged to be a part of it.
