That STEVE SMYTH’S sophomore release EXITS (produced by Joey Waronker (Thom Yorke, Beck) and Gus Seyffert (The Black Keys, Norah Jones)) is a magnificent soundtrack for travel should come as no surprise. Smyth spent years roaming the streets of Paris and London, traversing Europe, Asia and North America. Here he listened to rough mixes of songs in his head, scrawling lyrics in dog-eared note books, teasing out arrangements on his guitar. Steve and his band The Outlaws will pick back up touring this year as well as play the legendary Byron Bay Bluesfest in 2016.
After Exits’ release last year, Smyth went on to sell out shows on his Exits album tour, receive the Feature Album slot at Double J with the station gushing “There's no doubting he is one of the most talented singers we have right now”, nominated for Double J’s Artist Of The Year J Award, as well as Album Of The Week status from ABC Newcastle and Darwin, and a 4/5 review in The Music and Rolling Stone calling Smyth “an undeniable talent”.
From the streets of Barcelona to touring alongside the likes of The Killers, Angus and Julia Stone, Lanie Lane and Kim Churchill, Smyth has proven time and time again to be devastating in the live setting. A voice churned up in Bourbon soaked Louisiana gravel that soars to the heavens at times with its sweetness…after experiencing Steve Smyth, it’s tempting to compare him with some of the great vocalists of the past few decades.
