Sean Coffin’s Zoning Laws new band and subsequent tour are derived from Sean’s soon to be submitted PhD. The new improvising method Sean has created, called ‘Flow Zoning’ has been the impetus, musical inspiration and new sound creating new compositions and innovative improvisations breaking new ground.
Sean Coffin has been a mainstay in the Australian jazz scene for almost four decades and lived for over ten years in Boston (his birthplace) and New York. Graduating at Berklee College of Music (B.Mus) and Manhattan School of Music (M.Mus) where he absorbed the teaching over many years with the greatest jazz exponents in Joe Viola, Bill Pierce, Hal Crook, Ed Tomassi, Bob Mintzer and George Garzone.
Sean has been back in Sydney since 2000 and has composed for and led bands such as The Coffin Brothers, scQUINT, Sean Coffin Sextet, Third Wheel, Intrionsic, Wield and now Zoning Laws. Zoning Laws features the exciting and formidable talents of Peter Koopman (Guitar), Tom Botting (Bass) and Nic Cecire (Drums). When travelling to Auckland at CJC Sean will play with Joe Kaptein, Ben Frater and Will Goddingson and in Melbourne at The Jazzlab with Sam Anning, Mark Fitzgibbon and Sam Bates.
This tour will be the culmination of years of dedication and fun for all.
