A dynamite force in world roots music, adored for their frenetic drum choreographies and infectious dance grooves. Rhythm Hunters bring cutting edge physical percussion, western horns, Asian flute, deep grooves and electro beats, making them one of Australia’s most exciting and fast growing live festival acts.

This ground breaking album 'It’s Always the Same…Till it’s Different' brings together 10 years of the raw, love infused contemporary tribal sounds. The sound, heavily informed by Indonesian music comes together in a way that honours the roots, yet also launches forward into a new world of no boundaries, where cultures blend and become one. This is not traditional music, nor a reflection of current musical trends. All the tracks are present tense in the moment, evolving musical artworks.

Acknowledged for the ability to play to a wide variety of audiences Rhythm Hunters have evolved to become a sought after festival act appealing highly to rhythm, dance and percussion enthusiasts. Rhythm Hunters also bring world music to the curious attention of the uninitiated.

This new album was recorded by Melbourne engineer Robin Mai (John Butler Trio, Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Nick Cave, Paul Kelly) and produced by legendary producer, musician and percussionist Nicky Bomba, in country Victoria early 2017. Immersed in nature the band enjoyed family living whilst working together in the studio. This resulted music that is brave, colourful, joyous and easy on the ear.

The album title, It’s Always the Same…Till it’s Different is a bit of a motto within the band as songs are always on the chopping board for innovation. New to the band in 2017, keys player Benny Goldstein once asked sax player Matt Lee if there was a change to a particular song. The response was: “It’s Always the Same, Till it’s Different...” In that moment the phrase resonated, not only true for Rhythm Hunters music but so too for life. The implication is to let go of the reigns, not to worry and trust you will know when you need to know.

“Rhythm Hunters seems to be a force of nature rather than a grouping of musicians… a show that was so musically engaging and complex that it feels like you have slipped inside an ancient myth or otherworld. I was clearly unprepared for the power of this act.”
~ Steve Gadd - Director Cygnet Folk Festival
