Matriarch is a grunge rock band with a bit of a twist – four ‘mature’ women over the age of 50 who write and play loud, original and sometimes political music. Hey by the time you’ve reached your sixth decade on the planet you’ve got a bit of stuff to get off your chest!

Culprits are Lorena Quinlivan on vocals/guitar, Glenda Harvey on guitar/vocals, Lee Grunwald on bass and Leanne Thompson on drums.

After a jaw dropping debut in early 2020, Matriarch cracked on through the pandemic songwriting, recording and gigging whenever they could. Testament to their love of music, within 12 months the band had headlined an International Women’s Day event, tore up the Moshpit in Sydney and warmed up the March4Justice National Rally at Parliament House.

Matriarch’s first EP ‘Messy House’ – a box set of anthems for the women’s movement - is available soon on the usual streaming sites as well as on iTunes and Amazon for purchase.

The band is stoked to be back at Smith’s Alternative with their mates from Space Party for a great night of rock and roll.

Space Party is a four-piece power surf pop garage punk band hailing from land-locked Canberra.

They began life playing instrumental surf-rock jams but now use vocals to bring to life their extraterrestrial sci-fi obsessions - with songs about encountering prejudice dating an alien, the woes of werewolves, loving an X-files character and fear of the zombie apocalypse.

Featuring members of Brisbane’s Ups and Downs, Sydney’s Big Heavy Stuff and Atticus, Melbourne’s Arctic Circles, Canberra’s Okinawa Girls and New York’s The Defenders, this is a band that has left blood, sweat and beer on stages from Phnom Penh to Narrabundah.

Please do not attend if you are unwell, have been in close contact with a known active case of COVID-19, or have been to a COVID affected area or travelled overseas in the previous 14 days.
