Canberra ex-pat and reigning queen of synth-folk Julia Johnson is bringing her band to Smith’s, launching her new synth-folk RnB slow-jam Breathe Him In. Julia's former Berlin bandmate & fellow Canberra ex-pat GG (Georgia Ginnivan) will be launching her luscious pop debut EP Midsummer Colour. Opening the show, we have Julia’s mentee band from Girls Rock Camp - get in on the ground floor and catch Cosmic Ruin for one of their first public performances!

JULIA JOHNSON

Her voice has been compared to Florence Welch, Joni Mitchell and even a 'treacherous mountain river'. An awarded songwriter, Johnson’s songs evoke striking echoes of love and loss, at once ruthlessly intimate, universal. On stage, Johnson’s warm presence and unpredictable banter usher you in to her musical universe, where she brandishes traditional folk instruments with exceptional and unusual technique.

Julia is a TripleJ Unearthed awarded songwriter who has supported iconic Australian artists including Courtney Barnett, Tim Rogers, Jen Cloher, Bob Evans and Pete Murray including performing at the National Folk Festival and Groovin The Moo.

 GG MUSIC

GG is a pop artist who grew up on the borders of a national park, the Australian folks festival circuit, and a circus school. GG’s music mixes high energy production with themes of loneliness and distance. With tongue-in-cheek playfulness and determination, GG creates sonic collages with her lush, layered tracks using clarinets, guitars and electronics. Her music draws inspiration from Christine and the Queens, Laura Jean. Lorde, Lana Del Ray, Mallrat, The 1975 and Grimes.
