On what would have been J Dilla's 50th Birthday, some of Canberra's finest musicians, led by bassist Evan Marshalsey, will come together to play re-imagined live band arrangements of the legendary Hip-Hop producers finest beats.James Dewitt Yancey mostly known as J Dilla or Jay Dee, was a Detroit born rapper and producer. Mostly known for his work with A Tribe Called Quest, Erykah Badu, D'Angelo, plus his own group Slum Village, Dilla not only influenced a generation of Hip-Hop producers but also musicians, as his signature 'Drunk' style of drum programming has been imitated by Nu-Jazz and Neo Soul artists worldwide since his untimely passing in 2006.
