Thoroughbass is an early music ensemble whose members play period instruments, but who have trouble staying in the past. Established in 2009 by director and harpsichordist Diana Weston, we love to perform contemporary music as much as old - giving new sounds to music of the present and recent past, while staying true to our early music background. The result is varied, innovative and original programming that dares to step outside the expected square.

Cock Crow: Rosemary Dobson in Words and Music

Dobson write(s) poems that are beautiful without being precious, challenging without being obscure, and that strive for timelessness without losing sight of what grounds them to reality. David McCooey

Rosemary Dobson is one of Australia’s great poets. The eight poems from her recording of her own work Poets on Record are read alongside music that reflects aspects of the poem, with pieces from the 17th c. to the 21st by Bach, Vivaldi, and Australians Dargaville, Bolliger, Howlett and Kats-Chernin. With Shaun Ng (viola da gamba, theorbo and lute), Diana Weston (harpsichord), Leonie Cambage (reader).
