It's Wellington vs Canberra in this epic late-night brass brawl at Smith's Alternative. Brass and drums trio Iskra have come from Wellington, NZ to face off against the 9 piece Canberra heavyweights Brass Knuckle Brass Band.

BRASS KNUCKLE BRASS BAND is a sweaty late-night party for anyone who knows sousaphones are cooler than bass guitars. Think whiskey dripping from trombone spit-valves; think drummers with callouses on their callouses. Think a crusty bari sax belting at Bourbon Street from the wrong hemisphere and you're getting the idea. First thrown together for a one-off Wednesday night jazz gig, BKBB has played at Falls Festival and Woodford Folk Festival, and has opened for international heavyweights Jon Cleary, Charles Bradley and Fred Wesley.

ISKRA are an otherworldly trio heralding from Te Whanganui a Tara (Wellington, New Zealand) formed by former BKBB saxophonist Josh Buckler. Inspired by the likes of Sons of Kemet and the London Jazz scene, they bring driving grooves, soaring melodies and the fire of afro-beat, Balkan music and a style that is best described as Brass-House. Think dance party at the end of the world, when the last lights have gone out. This special performance features founding member Henry Smithers (MELB) on Sousaphone and Chris Thwaite (BKBB) on drums.
