Smith’s Alternative Gallery is excited to announce that we are partnering with Design Canberra Festival in 2017!
Alternate Threads is a call out to designers, crafters and tinkerers in Canberra!
In partnership with Design Canberra Festival, Smith’s Alternative Gallery is hosting an exhibition that promotes design, sustainability and most importantly, locality. We are seeking applicants from all backgrounds; be it aspiring, emerging, established designers and/or artists are invited to apply.
The brief is to glimpse into an alternate future of clothing design in Canberra.

Artists and designers are to consider how fashion, clothing production, textiles design or manufacturing, will appear in the future. Designs can vary from conceptual sculpture, illustrated fashion designs, animated videos (we have a projector!), clothing designs, print, photography, fibre art, a sketch of machine that makes an amazing costume, its up to you! Admissions may include designs made previously or specifically for the exhibition. We look forward to seeing how you plan to clothe Canberra!

To apply applicants are asked to send up to 5 images and a maximum 250 works explaining why the design is the future of fashion in Canberra. Please send applications to smithsalternativegallery@gmail.com, including your name, phone number and email address.

When: Entries close Friday November 3rd 2017, selected applicants will be notified by phone on Sunday 5th November,

Install will occur on Tuesday the 7th and 8th November, artists will need to be available around this time to to deliver art works. The exhibition opens on Thursday 9th November at 6pm
