Wilbur Whitta
Wilbur Whitta returns to Australia after working as a member of the prestigious Focusyear band in Basel, Switzerland, to release his new solo album ‘Now Play Something Upbeat’ (Loumi Records). Recorded primarily in a historic church, this record documents a first: Wilbur working alone at both piano and organ, improvising each piece in the room.
Originally hailing from Ngunnawal/Canberra, Wilbur Whita is an award-winning Australian pianist and composer known for music that doesn’t shy away from confron8ng serious environmental and social issues while simultaneously seeming humorous and care-free. Wilbur was a finalist in the Freedman Fellowship awards and the Australian Na8onal Jazz Awards, and, while living in London, won the Dankworth Jazz Composi8on Award (UK).
“Now Play Something Upbeat is bold in conception and generous in execution … It makes us think about what we are losing and what we can still protect … A GREAT record!” – PARISMOVE
