Ever at the ready to challenge the prudish, prurient, wowser types and their notions that nudity is inherently associated with sexuality and is to be abhorred in all situations except, or even including, the marital boudoir, Smith’s presents Unclothed People Doing Things.
Our MC, the reasonably witty and charming Nigel Smith, will guide us through the following unclothed entertainments:
Kitty White, one of our most regular and beloved unclothed people, will be delighting us with whatever she damn well likes.
Strong Bottom is an enigmatic troubadour. Like the Swedes and their many words for snow, he has many songs that describe love gone wrong, a topic that, like snow, can seemingly never be exhausted.
Jarrah Hoey. You may recognise him as a Smith’s regular, oft with pad and pen, sketching the performers. He has also been a busking trombonist around town. This is his second Unclothed and he’ll be playing the trombone, ‘boning’ as it were.
Mikelangelo is one of Canberra’s favourite sons. A surprisingly youthful veteran of the Australian musical scene, he’s played a million gigs here, there and Edinburghvrywhere, but tonight will do his first ever totally unclothed performance (this might not be strictly true) at Smith’s.
Simone Penkethman, like the gentleman above, is a brilliant star in the Canberra musical firmament. She hath sayed the sooths and done the many many sparkling gigs, with band, without band, written the songs that have become part of the folklore, and some of these she will play.
Robori. Half classical, half Jazz, this monstrosity is born of both worlds and is rejected by both. Tonight Robori will be making a vain effort to regain credibility with their acrimoniously divorced musical parents - we ask that you forgive them.
The Dixie Swingers, a trio subset of a larger dixie style band some of you may be familiar with, will make merry with the funnest part of their enormously fun repertoire.
Cuddlefish are shy creatures with flesh that can change colour to express their emotions. They’re rarely seen in public, mostly preferring to share their incendiary gifts amongst fellow fiends in debaucherous after-parties or random moments of leisure time. Catch them this one night, fully exposed, their tendrils quivering, with nothing between them and you but the water we breathe.
Jayne Hoschke is a promising footsoldier in the ukulele weilding singer songwriter army, unleashed on the unsuspecting public to beguile them into enjoying thinking about unexpected topics at imprecisely metered moments. In the process of forming her first, unruly, band, she may be accompanied by some of them, or not.
Sian Cook is an activist, model and musician. She will be playing the instrument favoured by naked people, the ukulele.
