Running since 2011, Leo’s familiar solo blues piano sessions have now found a new home at Smith’s Alternative on the 3rd Saturday of every month from 12.30 to 2 pm.
At these gigs, Leo takes the audience on a whistle stop tour of the many genres of blues piano with some bluesy detours into the American songbook. There are slightly longer stops in the world of Louisiana piano. The audience will get a taste of a little history from Jelly Roll Morton’s Latin-infused habanera style. This later underpinned Professor Longhair and the funk of the Meters to the melodic but always blues-based work of Dr John and the superb song writing craft of Jon Cleary. Leo includes a few of his own tunes along the way. Usually seen around town playing with Key Grip or in duos with Angela Lount, Leo has played at the Australian Blues Music Festival, Goulburn, Semaphore Music Festival, Adelaide, Docklands Blues Festival, Melbourne, Broadbeach Blues Festival and toured Tasmania and South Australia.
