The inimitable Canberra Jazz duo In2DEEP combines the stunning vocal talents of Rachel Thorne with the compositional abilities of Mike Dooley on piano. The duo has been soothing and inspiring audiences around Canberra and the region for the last several years with renditions of the great jazz standards and their own soulful, swinging jazz originals.
Rachel, formerly lead singer of Canberra’s Royal Military College band, has shared the stage with numerous Australian celebrities including Kylie Minogue and John Farnham. She has since had an extensive professional singing career with a number of top local acts. Mike studied composition at Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has since travelled the world performing and composing, returning to Canberra 5 years ago. He been very active as a jazz and classical pianist and has produced several albums, including one for Sydney/Wollongong based blues/jazz diva PearlNoire and his own instrumental jazz album “High Time.”
In2Deep have been a popular act at many local venues, events and regional festivals such as the Merimbula Jazz Festival.
Their debut album “Just for the Heaven of it”, released in 2015 is made up of lyrical ballads and catchy duets with witty lyrics. From summery bossanovas to lilting jazz waltzes, the album takes you on an emotional and delightfully escapist journey to distant shores and dreamy vistas.
