David Bridie has a distinguished career as a solo artist, as the creative force behind Not Drowning Waving & My Friend the Chocolate Cake, and as the producer of albums for artists such as Christine Anu and Archie RoachDavid Bridie's 2025 album "On Karens Piano" saw him reimagine songs from his substantial catalogue, stripped back for voice, piano and ambient textures.
David now realises this album live, revealing a new perspective on these songs that are rich with emotion and musicality, in performances that are peppered with stories drawn from his experiences from decades working in The Pacific, and more recently as Antarctic Artist in Residence.
A respected soundtrack composer, Bridie received the 2026 AACTA award for his score for “Journey Home: David Gulpilil” a moving documentary following the renowned actor’s family as they take on the challenge of fulfilling David Gulpilil's dying wish, which was to be laid to rest in his Homeland of Gupulul in Arnhem Land.
More recently Bridie reformed the legendary band “Not Drowning Waving” for a series of performances revisiting their landmark album “Tabaran” with collaborators Sir George Telek, Pius Wasi and Ben Haklitz to celebrate 50 years of independence for Papua New Guinea. These shows led to a new album, a national tour and “Tabaran” being included in the National Film and Sound Archive’s “Sounds of Australia”.
