The Re-Mains

With a history a quarter of a century long, the Re-mains are a natural extension of what Bob Dylan kicked-off at the Newport folk Festival in the mid-sixties. The Re-mains play on folk-song foundations, a repertoire with substance and stories, delivered with the deft toughness and fire that could only be forged on the Australian pub-rock circuit, not just urban, but in the far-flung regions and to the desert sands beyond.

It would be fair to say The Re-mains are idealists. The band believes wholeheartedly in the broader message of their repertoire and the need to perform that music with conviction and sincerity. No gimmicks, no schtick. The message, be it political, societal, fanciful or just straight up matters of the heart have always been up for musical expression. The Re-mains speak directly of Australia, it’s often grimy underbelly, locating it’s beating heart.

Den Hanrahan’s music is a compendium of ballads, laments and reckless dirges from his songbook of the open road. He makes no secret of his love for Rootsy music, freely employing banjos, steel guitars and the hard-driven word in a recreation of the old-fashioned world that still lives in his heart. Steeped in present-day Australia, the phantom images of the past intrude all over his tales of remorse and redemption, cocaine and corruption, the plaintive song of a bruised and homesick traveller.

Also appearing, Adam Young and the Down Main
