Rain Of Animals is the euphonious collaboration between Pepita Emmerichs and Theodore Barnard and their love of all things mandolin, fiddle, guitar, harmony vocals, bluegrass, oldtime, swing, tunes and songs. Their sound is both new and old, unique in it's instrumental wizardry and musical integrity all at once.
Since their debut album Nali's World was released in 21' they have toured extensively around Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the UK, where they are now based in Scotland. 26' will see them release their sophomore album, which includes their own songs as well as tunes and special guests from their travels. They are not only in demand as a band but also as session musicians for the likes of Fanny Lumsden, Stereo Naked, Harry Bird, Wayward Jane and Luke Plumb amongst others. They have ongoing collaborative projects with US mandolin master Jacob Jolliff and songwriter Donny McElligott as Good Guy Hank and aim to bring this plethora of musical experiences to the forefront in their own sound and performances. This Australian tour they are performing in trio format, enlisting superstar double bassist Isaac Gunnoo from Melbourne who recorded on their new album.
We love Pepita from her time in Oh Pep! when she and Olivia visited and played here a bunch of times back in the day. We haven’t met Theodore but we’re sure we’ll love him too.
Special Guest Evan Buckley (The Burley Griffin) serves up folk-infused alt Austral-Americana, created globally and curated locally in Canberra. Having spent his childhood waiting for the rapture in a strict fundamentalist cult, Buckley’s songs are a poignant reflection on loss of faith, marriage, and certainty, balanced out by the ecstatic freedom found in embracing life’s unpredictability and rolling with the hits.
Live, Buckley covers a sweeping emotional range - gentle introspection swells into searing crescendos and soaring vocals, punctuated by Evan’s charismatic and wry storytelling. Established as an act to keep an eye on, The Burley Griffin has earned support slots for Australian icons like Mia Dyson and Augie March, and appearances at major festivals including St Albans, Cobargo, Corinbank, Kangaroo Valley Folk Fest, The National Folk Festival and Jindyfest.
