Yep. For those of you that have been asleep at the wheel for the past decade, Brett has been quietly doing his thang in Joeys Coop. Apart from Brett (one of this country’s most distinctive and underrated guitarists) the line-up is rounded out by some of 80s and 90s indy rock’s finest: Marc Lynch (bass player of JJJ 90s faves Glide), Lloyd Gyi (drummer of choice for two iconic Aussie performers Perry Keyes and Dave Warner) and Mark Roxburgh on vocals (of the largely unknown and vastly underrated 1980s next big thing Decline of the Reptiles).

If you’ve missed them then this is what the critics and punters say –

Of their 2023 release Lachlan Valley Dirt:

“This is a world-class grown-up rock record. Undoubtedly, one of 2022's finest. 5/5.” Craig Regan I94Bar.

“I have been listening to the album all weekend – it is brilliant – absolutely love it.” Neil Rogers The Australian Mood 3RRR.

Of their live performances:

“Roxburgh’s (still) one engaging frontman and his energy burns fiercely.” Craig Regan I94Bar.

“Joeys Coop are, in one word, Out Standing!” Doug Falconer (Hunters and Collectors).

“These guys would be famous if they weren’t old." Hipster punter at the Union Hotel, Newtown.

“Hey you guys were really good, you know....cool, like." Young barmaid at Frankies Pizza by the Slice, Sydney.

“Thanks for sharing your amazing energy tonight.” The gal managing the bar at the Post Office Hotel, Coburg.

If Keith Richard’s and Nico had a lovechild whose god parents were Eno, Ron Asheton, Patty Smith and Chrissy Hynde and said lovechild started a band and they dabbled in a bit of roots music then you’d get a vague idea of the ballpark Joeys Coop play in. They sing of fractured family, loss, the oddities of 21st century life, the burdens of overleveraged real estate, mediations on lives gone wrong, divorce, cats, going to jail, AI and algorithms, and just about anything that takes their fancy.

Not to be missed. What the critics say:
