Geoff Page’s Poetry at Smith’s for October will feature Kevin Brophy from Melbourne and Jen Webb from Canberra.

Kevin Brophy is a poet, essayist, and fiction writer. His latest book is An Inventory of Longing (Whitmore Press 2025). Martin Duwell, in Australian Poetry Review, has written of this book that, ‘There is a good case for seeing Kevin Brophy as one of Australia’s most humane poets.’ Emeritus Professor at the University of Melbourne, Kevin is a past winner of the Calibre Prize for an outstanding essay and the Wesley Michel Wright Prize for poetry. He has been Patron of the Melbourne Poets Union since 2004. He was awarded an Order of Australia (AM) for services to creative writing and education in 2021.

Jen Webb is author or co-author of twenty volumes of poetry and creative prose, and editor of a further ten, including New Writings from the South Pacific (2007), the Mandarin/English anthology Open Windows: Contemporary Australian Poetry (2016), and The Writing Mind (2023). Her most recent poetry collection is The Daily News (Recent Work Press, 2024). She lives and works on Ngunnawal country in Canberra.
