The jam welcomes seasoned musicians and players who want to get into this style of music. The first 30 minutes of the jam is devoted to some practice and exchange of pointers and tips in order to help less experienced players to get into the genre. This is all about building a gypsy jazz community in Canberra.

JAM ETIQUETTE

Be respectful to the genre. This acoustic jam is focused on gypsy jazz in the style of Django Reinhardt.  No amps, drums or percussion, please. “La pompe” guitars are the main percussive and melodic backbone of the genre, alongside double bass, violin, clarinet and accordion. Instruments, such as flute, mandolin and saxophone, work well too. Vocals are welcome (as long as within the style/repertoire).

If many players, we will rotate (no more than 6-7 players at a time). 2-3 songs per sit in, then give someone else a go. If you don't know the tune well, refrain from soloing, accompany at low volume and/or consider sitting out so you don't get in the way of other players (and consider learning the song in your own time for the next jam).
