SPANISH SATURDAY!

A Spanish fundraising concert for The Gida Initiative – working to save the disappearing traditional culture of the Motu people of PNG.

Canberra's local Spanish music aficionados, students of The Flamenco Centre and  the Spanish Club will come together to present an informal programme of Latin Jazz Flamenco, Spanish classical guitar, poetry, percussion and flamenco dance. With special appearance by the Canberra PNG Peroveta Gospel Singers.

This promises to be a special and memorable afternoon’s entertainment.The Gida Initiative is an important community project started right here in Canberra to document and revive critically endangered traditional cultural practices of the Motu people of PNG. The funds raised will be used to send a research/documentary team to Port Moresby in August to document the pottery tradition before the last remaining potters die out. The project also aims to implement programmes for continuity - to make traditional pottery culturally and economically relevant again.
