Soundscapes is a monthly music night showcasing acts somewhere in the alternative / experimental / sound art / other / uncategorised zones. Our featured acts for April:

HAPPY AXE
Happy Axe is multi-instrumentalist and musical polymath Emma Kelly. Happy Axe weaves layers of vocals, violin and musical saw into a vibrant fever dream of ambient pop music. Watching a performance by Happy Axe is a hypnotic experience. Deft melodies and atmospheric loops cascade and fold themselves around you. Entrancing patterns form and then dissolve.
Inspired equally by the organic sonic landscapes of artists like Björk and Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, and the brooding string-laden film scores of David Lynch and Hollywood noir, Happy Axe builds sound-worlds filled with both light and shadow.

BEN DRURY
Benjamin Drury is a Canberra-based composer, improviser and sound artist. His practice deals with experimental, popular and classical music, in performance and composition.

WAVES OF RUST
Waves of Rust is a project recently born in Canberra. Its author hails from France where he began learning classical guitar as a child, played in several rock bands, before becoming interested in electronic music production and theatre soundtrack composition. This project merges all these facets: the immersive energy of electronic music, the power of heavy guitars and industrial sounds all merging in loops created live.
