Through a selection of cherished classics, Salón de los Recuerdos celebrates the songs that have accompanied countless moments of love, heartbreak, and remembrance across the Spanish speaking world.

Born in Cuba in the late nineteenth century, bolero became one of Latin America’s most beloved musical traditions. Carried across the Caribbean, Mexico, Central and South America, it evolved into a rich repertoire of songs that speak of love, longing, memory, and the passage of time.

During the twentieth century, boleros filled cafés, salons, dance halls, radio broadcasts, and family gatherings. Their poetic lyrics and expressive melodies have been performed by generations of singers and remain an enduring part of Latin American cultural life.

About the artists:

Rebekah Day is an Australian artist with a background in samba and other Latin dance styles. Through dance, she developed a deep appreciation for Latin rhythms, first through percussion and later through singing. In exploring the rich diversity of Latin American music, Rebekah fell in love with boleros and is passionate about sharing its beauty with both those who grew up with the genre and those discovering it for the first time.

Eduardo Ruiz is a Peruvian-born guitarist based in Canberra with a lifelong connection to the music and culture of Latin America. Through performing, teaching, and producing concerts, he is passionate about sharing the rich musical traditions of his homeland and the wider Latin American community. Having performed throughout Australia and Peru, Eduardo enjoys bringing people together through music and creating opportunities for audiences to experience the warmth, beauty, and diversity of Latin American culture. Tonight, he is delighted to share a selection of beloved boleros with you.
