Combining 60s & 70s folk singer-songwriter influences with a contemporary Americana/bluegrass sound, “John Flanagan has proven himself a songwriting force to keep an eye on” (Timber and Steel). In February 2016 John released his latest album, ‘There’s Another Way to Where You’re Going’ which was recorded in Nashville with producer Viktor Krauss and was nominated for best Folk/Roots Album in the Age Music Victoria Awards. During 2016 John toured his album around Australia and Canada, he regularly plays alongside festival favourite Liz Frencham (double bass/vocals) and bluegrass virtuoso Dan Watkins (guitar/mandolin/vocals) in a dynamic trio characterised by warm vocal harmonies and impressive arrangements. They are currently working on a trio album and they will perform songs from both albums at their show in Canberra.

Opening the show will be Liz Frencham, who is well known to Canberra audiences as a staple of the National Folk Festival. Liz Frencham is a warm, exuberant performer, associated with multiple successful collaborations (Frencham Smith, Jigzag, Jimmy the Fish & Dev'lish Mary) and a captivating soloist. She easily traverses genres from folk and bluegrass through to jazz and blues with gentle expertise and plenty of good humoured banter to accompany the journey. Last year Liz released her third volume of live duets and began a new collaboration 'Paper Mouse' with jazz guitarist Robbie Melville, alongside assuming a regular role in the John Flanagan Trio.
