We welcome Geoff Page’s long running jazz series to Smith’s. On a Tuesday night, parking is fairly easy to find in the nearby Magistrates Court car park. If you’re after dinner prior to the show, we’ve negotiated discounts for ticket holders at both Lemongrass Thai (on London Circuit, $25 entree and main, Ph: 6247 2779) and Briscola Italian (next door to Smith’s, 10% discount on anything – Ph: 6248 5444). Grab an early bite at either and head over to Smith’s for the jazz at 8pm. Bookings essential. Print out your tickets or better still have them for show on your phone.

Our Favourite Pianists

The Our Favourite Pianists concert gathers two of the country’s best jazz pianists, Hugh Barrett (Syd) and Wayne Kelly (CBR).

They’ll be supported by the equally luminous Brendan Clarke (bass) and Mark Sutton (drums). Hugh’s selection, mainly in the second half, will lnclude well-known jazz standards as interpreted by contemporary masters Brad Meldau, Robert Glasper and Marc Copland as well as earlier influential pianists such as Bud Powell and Lennie Tristano. Wayne’s program,in the first half, will feature tributes to Scott Joplin (‘Maple Leaf Rag’), Ahmad Jamal (‘Poinciana’ and others), Bill Evans (‘Periscope’ and others) and Kenny Kirkland — among others.
