The 90‑Minute Draft Method is a structured, time‑boxed writing process designed to help people who don’t know how to start move from blank page to a completed story draft by writing in focused 90‑minute sessions.
It’s built for teens through to older adults (13–99), and it’s meant to feel like a relaxed, supportive conversation—not an academic lecture. Think: a calm guide sitting beside you saying, “Alright—here’s what we’re doing next.”
Who it’s for
This method is for you if you:
What it is
The 90‑Minute Draft Method is:
How it works (why 90 minutes matters)
The method works because it does three simple things:
What it does (in plain language)
What you’ll walk away with
Practical outcomes
Skill and confidence outcomes
What makes it different
A lot of writing advice is either too vague (“just write”) or too heavy (“learn everything first”). The 90‑Minute Draft Method sits in the middle:
Ready to draft?
If you want a writing process that’s clear, calm, and actually gets you to a draft, the 90‑Minute Draft Method is built for you.
Darren Brealey is an award-winning Australian playwright, author, and creative coach with more than 30 years of hands-on experience in storytelling, performance, and creative development across Australia and London. Since launching his professional career in 1996 with The Meeting Place at the Melbourne Fringe Festival, Darren has built a body of work known for daring subject matter, dark humour, and emotional honesty; stories that don’t flinch from real life and invite audiences and readers into meaningful conversation.
Across his career, Darren has written and staged more than twenty plays, with productions presented in Australia, London, Singapore, Malaysia, and beyond. His London theatre journey included works developed and performed in venues such as Camden’s Etcetera Theatre (as part of the Black Box Festival), The Lost Theatre in Stockwell, and The Cockpit Theatre, experience that sharpened his understanding of craft, audience, and what it takes to bring a story to life under real-world creative pressure. Darren lived in London for 10 years, and that decade continues to inform the practical, no-nonsense approach he brings to writers today.
Alongside his writing, Darren has coached hundreds of creatives, helping new and emerging writers find their voice, strengthen structure, and move from idea to finished draft. Through Write Inspire, his Australian creative studio and online store, he supports writers with one-on-one consultations, guided resources, and structured programs addressing the most common sticking points: writer’s block, character and story development, dialogue, scene work, and simply knowing where (and how) to start.
Darren’s coaching is grounded in lived creative practice: he understands deadlines, doubt, revision, and the discipline required to finish. The outcome for clients is clarity, confidence, and forward motion, stronger stories, stronger skills, and a repeatable process they can rely on long after the session ends.
