The first Floral Frock was in 1998, outside Floriade, as a GravyTRAM (Music with Fun & Glam) busking alternative, when a $15 entry fee was charged for the Flower-Fest (a foolish idea, soon dropped). But once started, the Floral Frock could not be stopped, so it continued on its shambolic, but strangely compelling, trajectory. After a few years in Commonwealth Park, it popped up annually, like a determined dandelion in a tulip patch, in Canberra and environs :- at the legendary Canberra Park Woolshed; at notorious Death-Metal Den, Rockape, in Dickson; Gypsy Jewles' home; Melody Bear's home; Dave's Pixie House in Queanbeyan; The Phoenix; The Pot Belly; Magpies Underground; Downer Community Centre; Eon's House; Gallery-Studio in Buckland St, Mitchell; till it settled a few years ago in the lovely dandelion patch that is Smith's Alternative.
