The last time the Date Brothers played at Smith’s, the musicians from the circus came to sit in. You can never tell what will happen when these guys come to town! But one thing you can count on is a presentation of superb entertainment and music of the highest calibre with exciting improvisations and dazzling skills.

Ian Date is based in Ireland (guitar, trumpet, vocal), and when he gets together with brother Nigel (guitar) who is based in Sydney, they like to present their wild and crazy guitar playing. Using Django Reinhardt’s gypsy jazz as a starting point they range through a wide variety of influences on their acoustic guitars; from a gypsy campfire to a sophisticated inner city salon via a South American street party.

They have recorded with some of Australia’s greatest musicians including Tommy Emmanuel and James Morrison.

Their latest album is called “Just My Luck” and was recorded with the legendary cornetist Bob Barnard and bassist Jonathan Zwartz.
