At Smith’s we love songs, and the songwriters that sing them. We host plenty of bands and we love them too, but every so often we’d like to strip the accompaniment away and hear the songs as they were written – one voice, one instrument, unadorned and vulnerable like a babe in the woods. For this sixth edition of Six of the Best, we have once again asked four very different song-writers to share six of their best songs with us. In order of appearance, we have...

Dana Hassall is a singer/songwriter/closet book nerd with a heart for the road less travelled. Born on a Queensland alpaca farm, she is a 2015 Toyota Star Maker Grand Finalist and a graduate of the CMAA Academy of Country Music. She’s one of the best song-writers around, a total pro entertainer and we love her.

Koebi Faumui is a professional music producer, based in Canberra Australia. He was born into a family of musicians (the Faumuis), so ever since he can remember he’s been surrounded by music. He began composing and recording when he was 7 and has been experimenting with new instruments and sounds ever since.

Gia Ransome’s music ranges from hypnotically melancholic to blues driven dive-bar riffs. She ‘s a uniquely powerful entity. Most commonly compared to artists like Lana Del Rey and Alexandra Savior, and drawing influence from indie, rock, psychedelia, and alternative/folk music, her sound is enticingly dark, dramatic and enchanting.

Ben Camden Authentic and sincere, Byron Bay based singer/songwriter Ben Camden’s upbringing in country Australia alongside time spent living in Fiji and Europe have shaped an original sound as diverse as it is genre bending. Unique with a baritone vocal and multi-instrumental, he seamlessly transitions from folk ballads to upbeat rock and everything in between, resonating with listeners through his down-to-earth stage presence and relatable lyrics.
