Welcome to the tenth edition of Singer Songwriters Solo, wherein we explore the songs (and souls) of three singer-songwriters.

If you’re a fan of songwriters but sometimes feel you’d rather hear the songs without bands and all the tricks, noise and musical wizardry composers frequently use to pretty up their compositions, this is the gig for you.

The three artists submitting to our friendly but possibly forensic analysis are:

JESS BAKER

Jess is the 2017 winner of the Borderlands Busking Competition at the National Folk Festival. Already very worldly, Jess was born in England and raised in New Zealand. At eighteen she moved to London to study Musical Theatre and did a three year BA at Italia Conti Academy of Performing Arts. Jess has always been involved with the arts through musical theatre, acting, singing, piano and guitar. Three years ago she moved to Canberra and has since done performances at Smiths Alternative, The Front Gallery and Cafe and Transit Bar. She also won the Canberra Sound Search in 2016.

SARA FLINT

Sara Flint brings a mixture of soulful, smooth and at times haunting vocal stylings readily comparable to Norah Jones, Daughter with a range of acoustic guitar tricks including intricate finger picking and percussive playing. In her short time on the scene Sara has shared the stage with friend Jack Biilmann, The Voice's Nathan Hawes, Skyscraper Stan and played live on Canberras biggest commercial radio station 104.7. Sara has also recorded a collaboration with Jack Biilmann set for release next year. With the end of school fast approaching expect a busy 2017 from Sara with shows and new music in the works with Canberra producer Matt Barnes.

MATT LINDAUER

Matt Lindauer is a songwriter, guitarist, and banjo player from Brooklyn, now living in Canberra. Past projects include the banjo-key-drum group Sugarbat and MonkMode. Matt has also played guitar and banjo in Daphne Lee Martin’s band and appeared on music by the rapper Siul Hughes.
