Canberra’s coolest department, The Dept of Rock, will be powering up their amps at Smith’s Alternative to bring us the show Canberra has been waiting for. Dept of Rock and ROFL is two hours of frank, fearless and hilarious musical satire about the wild and wacky world of the public service.

Madam Secretary and her tiger team of public servant rock stars are out to shine a light on shadowy government offices and reveal what is keeping public officials up at night.

Is falling asleep in a meeting really that bad? How can I survive another day on the IT Helpdesk? Will ChatGBT replace me, and do I care? I’ve consulted with the public, but their feedback is wrong – what should I do?

A mash-up of Countdown, Utopia and Rockwiz – Dept of Rock promises you an unforgettable night of clever commentary, laughter and of course great live music.

Part of the Canberra Comedy Festival 2025 program.

Featuring:

The Lounge Legislators – If it’s passage to laughter you are after, then go no further than The Lounge Legislators. These suave sophisticates have a mandate on smooth and focus on groove as they combine clever aps commentary with reimagined pub rock.

The Prod Commies – What does the Productivity Commission get up to when they aren’t doing deep economic dives? They get their punk rock on and have some serious fun. Prepared to be consulted at when the Prod Commies hit the stage, they really want your feedback.

The DUDs – The DUDs are acoustic punk rockers from Dept of Defence and Social Services who boarded the train of no decorum to journey through the public service over time. Annoying bosses and elected officials as they go, the DUDs are out to entertain - and hopefully not get the sack!
