A tribute to Cuban music – and their Orishas

Cuba, one of the world's most invigorating and passionate cultures and the most important source of music in Latin America.

The island has produced musical rhythms that have travelled all over the world. At home, music is inseparable from Cuba’s daily life and history.

Casablanca is proud to bring you an eclectic selection of songs from Afro-Cuban Rumba to Danzón, Charanga and Cha-cha-cha, and for the first time in ACT, Mario Navarro, Profesional Dancer and Choreographer will perform an Orishas Religious ritual to ‘Eleggua’ Santeria. An event that you cannot miss!.

The term “Santeria” was used by the Spanish colonisers in Cuba, in a derogatory way, to make fun of the slaves and their religious beliefs.  The slave-owners, who were Christian, did not permit the slaves to practice their beliefs; and so the slaves decided that the Christian saints would fulfill the same functions as their deities or “orichas”.
